Unveiling a Unusual Steam Game Trial: Controlling a Turdy Character with the Goal to Reach the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and gamers have discovered plenty of interesting indie games. However, one is particularly notable for its unconventional concept. Named Unko Technica, this classic-feel side-scrolling game features a character that is literally a piece of poop trying to travel to a commode. For those curious, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."

The gameplay is straightforward: just use a one button to leap. Across numerous challenges, you'll face mini-bosses and unlock a store to purchase skins for your dung hero.

Plan your actions precisely, as a mistake forces starting over. Jump on air pockets to launch the poop upward, navigate disappearing platforms, and touch switches to open hidden paths. Collect currency for buying tougher game content in which things gets crazy.

Graphically, the experience boasts vibrant level designs and a killer music score. The retro visual style with shifting abstract forms could recall fans of old favorites like Earthbound.

Although tough to name similar titles where you control a piece of feces, interactive entertainment often included fecal matter. For instance, in Death Stranding, you can make explosives from character droppings. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use feces as plant food. And of course, this theme appears extensively in Obsidian's role-playing game The Stick of Truth.

Despite its humorous concept, Unko Technica has already garnered notable awards, including winning at Bandai Namco's game competition in 2023. A playable preview is available at present on Steam, with the complete version set to arrive on PC in the fall.
