Thousands Participate in Pro-Palestinian Rallies as Organisers Promise to Keep Protesting

Tens of thousands gathered throughout the country at pro-Palestinian protests, with organisers pledging to continue protesting after a peace arrangement facilitated by Donald Trump in Gaza seemed to be taking effect.

Sydney March Attracts Many Participants

In Australia's largest city, the Palestine Action Group claimed 30,000 people had marched from the central park to Belmore Park in the central business district after a intended demonstration to the famous building was restricted by the New South Wales court of appeal last week.

NSW police approximated a crowd of 8,000 participated in the local rally, with a spokesperson stating there had been "peaceful proceedings".

Australian Rallies Commemorate Date

Rallies were also organized in Melbourne, Brisbane and west coast metropolis on Sunday to remember the ongoing situation after Hamas attacks on 7 October 2023 killed about 1,200 people in Israel.

"Concerning the protest efforts, we'll definitely persist to advocate for liberation... for self-determination in Gaza, for support to reach and for residents to restore their communities," said an activist.

Mixed Reactions to Truce Arrangement

Various participants shared confidence that the ceasefire would lead to lasting peace. Several expressed concerns of the former president's role and called on activists to keep pressuring the Australian government to sanction Israel and stop arms transactions.

Shamikh Badra, a Australian of Palestinian descent based in Australia, said he wished the agreement would allow him to assist his senior relative, who is still in Gaza without medical attention, to the country, and to locate and inter his sibling, his wife and their kids, who have been missing since 2023.

Local Jewish Population Organizes Memorial

In another development, many individuals joined a Jewish memorial service on that night in Sydney's eastern suburbs to remember the occasion of the October attacks. Geoffrey Majzner, the relative of a victim, an Australian citizen who was a casualty of the events, was arranged to talk.

There were hopes for soon return of those still detained in Gaza and the victims of the attacks. The Israeli ambassador, the diplomat, paid tribute to the strength of victims. The participants reacted negatively when he mentioned the head of government and the international relations official.

Boat Activists Relate Stories

The local protest earlier featured addresses including multiple nationals released from Israeli detention after the interception of the Sumud flotilla recently.

One activist, his injured limb after it was reportedly injured in an incarceration center, shared that insufficient information was available about the peace agreement. International aid organisations, including relief organizations, were getting ready to access the territory.

"While circumstances persist where there's a harsh and unlawful restriction on Gaza," stated the participant, boat protesters would continue to try to bring support through maritime routes.

Abubakir Rafiq, who returned to Sydney on the end of the week, gave an emotional speech sharing his captivity experience with dozens of fellow detainees in a detention facility.

Leadership Remarks

The NSW Greens MP the politician informed attendees: "It's unacceptable to permit a world where Trump determines the future of the Palestinian people to be the type of reality we accept."

Another organiser who submitted the original application to march on the Opera House maintained that the participants could have peacefully gone to the renowned coastal site. The NSW police assistant commissioner had previously told the legal authority that the plan had "disaster written all over it".

The coordinator said on Sunday: "Whenever the police attempt to oppose our protests or legal challenges, it raises public awareness... to the importance of gathering and stand up against it."
