Norris Edges Out Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
Lando Norris has outscored his teammate at each of the last five grands prix.
Lando Norris narrowly beat team-mate and title rival Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who seized the title advantage from his teammate by one point after winning in Mexico City two weeks ago, topped the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.
Until that point, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair during the running before the sprint shootout scheduled for 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the championship fight, trailing 36 points behind behind Norris, was classified in 17th position as his Red Bull team followed a unique setup.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to crash, albeit lightly, when he rotated at the fourth corner during the early running.
Tsunoda spun out over the track edges before sliding over the escape zone, and was blessed to escape with just a light touch of the wall.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also spun, at the final moments of the session, spinning around through the fast downhill Mergulho corner before the last turn on to the start-finish straight.
The seven-time champion wrapped up in 19th, trailing teammate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were far ahead of the rest of the field, with the German's car P3, 0.619secs behind Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
