Mario's Galactic Adventure Preview Arrives, Revealing Rosalina and Bowser Jr. Actors
The collaboration between Nintendo and Illumination released the first full-length trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie midweek. This occurred during a special Nintendo Direct that centered on the forthcoming animated feature.
The follow-up to the successful 2023 release The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this latest chapter will send Mario to the distant reaches of the universe. In his journey, he meets a fresh princess character and a formidable new rival in Bowser Jr., the offspring of the Koopa King.
An Interstellar Journey Drawing from Classic Games
Much like the Wii-era games that act as its source material, Mario will depart from the familiar comforts of the Mushroom Kingdom to travel across the galaxy. Throughout his extensive trek, he will reunite with some familiar faces, including the Luma, a popular character from the previous film.
However, it seems Mario and his brother Luigi will face a fresh enemy in the form of Bowser's irate young son, who apparently wields metal-based powers. Interestingly, the preview for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not exclusively centered on visuals from the Galaxy games; it also includes nods to other beloved games like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.
Star-Studded Voice Cast Come Back and Grow
The movie will feature once again of the original voice cast, including Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
New additions to the ensemble for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will bring to life Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to embody Bowser Jr. It was announced by Chris Meledandri, the chief executive of Illumination.
Mario's Major Moment
The upcoming Mario film is planned to debut near the four-decade milestone of the original Super Mario Bros. game. In addition to the movie, 2026 looks set to be a significant year for Mario and his companions.
Nintendo confirmed a trio of new releases already confirmed for 2026, including Mario Tennis Fever, a version for Switch 2 of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a new Yoshi platformer titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.
Launch Date Set
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is officially set to be released on April 3, 2026.
