Air Travel Restarts at Edinburgh Airport After Major ATC System Failure

A technical fault at the airport's ATC meant no aircraft could arrive or depart from the hub.

Flight operations have resumed at Scotland's primary international airport after a significant air traffic control outage grounded all flights.

All aircraft movements were stopped after an IT issue that was reported at approximately 08:30.

Some passengers found themselves stranded in planes on the runway during the disruption.

Flights Resume with Ongoing Delays

Officials announced at 10:40 that operations had restarted, and thanked passengers for their "cooperation and patience".

Nonetheless, significant disruption are anticipated to affect schedules. Flights to key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been axed, with a host of additional flights facing hold-ups.

Officials had previously estimated that a significant number of movements could be disrupted.

"Flyers are asked to contact their airlines for the latest information on their individual travel plans," the statement added.

Cause of the Chaos

The airport attributed the widespread suspension to an technical fault with its ATC service provider.

Flyers continue to be advised to confirm the details of their journey before traveling to the terminal as residual delays are cleared.
